Especially during the summer months, it’s super important to ensure that you’re replacing all the minerals you’re losing through your sweat as you workout, or even stroll through your neighbourhood on a hot day!
I’m going to teach you how to make your own energy drink, that is not only great for replacing your electrolytes, but helps you to fortify your blood (great especially for pregnant women who have a 50% increased blood volume) and maintain muscle by providing amino acids.
This drink also features magnesium to help relax the muscles to avoid too much soreness, vitamin C to support the immune system and L-Glutamine, which not only helps with muscle recovery, but can assist in healing the gut lining if you have any gut permeability (aka leaky gut).
- 500ml filtered water
- 1 tbsp beet crystals (flora)
- 1 tsp magnesium/calcium powder (natural calm)
- 1 tsp buffered vitamin C powder (natural factors)
- 5g L-Glutamine (AOR)
- 1 pinch himalayan sea salt
- squeeze of lemon
- Mix all these ingredients together with a spoon and enjoy before and during exercise
Now, let’s go over why we put each of those ingredients in there
- Beet crystals are a great blood builder which is great during pregnancy, post birth, or post surgery
- calcium & magnesium work together to contract and relax the muscles which is an obvious necessity during workouts
- vitamin C is great for the immune system, but it’s also an antioxidant which helps to feed free radicals that are created while exercising
- Glutamine is an amino acid that helps with muscle recovery but also helps to heal the digestive tract
- sea salt provides minerals lost in sweat
- lemon is more vitamin C, a great detoxifier, but also just a nice taste to garnish!
- Bonus: you can garnish with some mint as well to add to the antioxidant count, and give a nice minty fresh taste!
