Pretty in Pink Postpartum Smoothie

Postpartum recovery consists of a ton of rest, light movement like walking, and most importantly, a diet that is rich in healing and anti-inflammatory foods.

This smoothie is the perfect addition to your postpartum recovery repertoire.

We have beet powder which is known to help build your blood, which you have surely lost a lot of at birth and afterwards (for up to 6 weeks).

We also have collagen which will assist in tissue healing.  Whether you have a tear, an episiotomy, a cesarian birth, or simply just the wound where your placenta detached from your uterus, your body is in rebuilding mode, and collagen can help you along the way!  Collagen is found in bone broth too!

Lastly, what makes this the perfect postpartum smoothie is the addition of sunflower lecithin which is a fat emulsifier and can help to prevent clogged milk ducts!

Other ingredients found in this healing smoothie:

chia seeds – great for keeping the bowels moving.  Did you know that most women struggle with constipation post birth? Don’t let that be you! Keep the stool moving with chia seeds, which contain mucilage, a gooey substance to lubricate your bowels

coconut oil – anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-bacterial.. this is an amazing superfood, and you can rub any excess from the spoon onto your body 🙂

protein powder – we all know that we need protein for muscle recovery.  Throwing protein powder into every smoothie is a great way to keep your protein intake up while you’re recovering from childbirth.

berries – anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, also nutrient dense and low in sugar

Here is the recipe (measurements are estimates as I don’t generally measure smoothie ingredients)

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 scoop crystallized beets (or a whole roasted beet)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 scoop collagen
  • 1 tsp sunflower lecithin
  • 1/4 cup (or handful) of frozen berries
  • 1/2 banana
  • shredded coconut for garnish

Blend it up and BOOM!
